1. Earth, Sun and Moon

KEY FACTS:
1.
THE EARTH, SUN AND MOON ARE SPHERES OF DIFFERENT SIZES.
Take a look at this picture (CLICK ME) to see the relative sizes of the planets. This picture is in scale so that you can really compare them.
In this second picture (CLICK ME) you can see the relative sizes of our planet and the Moon. It is also in scale.
Now, check this video about the relative sizes of the planets and stars: (CLICK ME
2.
THE SUN APPEARS TO MOVE ACROSS THE SKY, BUT IT DOESN'T.
It is the Earth than spins around and around its axis
Draw a dot on the floor. Stand on it. Now spin, slowly. The sensation is that everything moves. But it is YOU that moves.
You might ask yourself How is it that we don't feel it? Like in a car you don't feel the speed because you are inside and protected, the atmosphere protects us.
3.
THE SUN RISES AT THE EAST (left of our window), AND SETS ON THE WEST (right of our window).
And it draws a curved line.
4.
THE SUN'S JOURNEY ACROSS THE SKY DESCRIBES A CURVED LINE.
*
5.
THIS CURVED LINE IS DIFFERENT IN THE 4 SEASONS.
-IT GOES HIGHER IN SUMMER, THEREFORE THE DAYS ARE LONGER.
-IT GOWS LOWER IN WINTER, THEREFORE THE DAYS ARE SHORTER.

THIS CURVED LINE IS DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON YOUR POSITION IN THE PLANET (longitude and latitude *
In the Artic and Antartic there is a phenomenon called the Midnight Sun, when the sun decides to stay away all night! (CLICK ME)

7.
THE 4 SEASONS ARE CREATED BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE LIGHT OF THE SUN HITS THE PLANET.
It's a question of angle. As the earth spins tilted to one side, we are never facing the Sun in the same way. So, in Summer we are facing the Sun eye to eye, whether as in Winter it is  the southern hemishere that faces the Sun in a direct straight line.

8.
THE EARTH SPINS ON ITS AXIS EVERY 24 HOURS: WE CALL THIS A DAY.
*
9.
THE EARTH TAKES A YEAR TO ORBIT THE SUN: 365 DAYS AND A QUARTER.
-OTHER PLANETS´ORBIT ARE OF LONGER DISTANCES, THEREFORE A YEAR IS MORE THAN 365 DAYS (AND A QUARTER) LONG!!!
10.
THE MOON TAKES ABOUT 28 D
THE LIGHT OF THE MOON COMES FROM THE SUN. IT IS A REFLECTION.
THE DARKNESS WE SEE IN THE MOON IS THE SHADOW CAST BY THE EARTH.
